The brigades of the Intersectorial Commission of De-mining and Humanitarian Aid (CNIDAH) destroyed from January 2007 to the first quarter of this year about 1,694 landmines and other explosive devices in north-western Zaire province.

Speaking to the Angolan News Agency (Angop) on Tuesday, the information head of CNIDAH, Lourenço Antunes, said that the landmines have been destroyed in the localities of Soyo, Mangue Grande, Sumba and Pedra de Feitiço.

According to the source, the local population has been contributing to the discovery of landmines, by showing suspected places.
