Nairobi — Reigning champion Carl Tundo and his teammate Alistair Cavenagh are looking forward to better results at the KCB Biashara Banking Rally.
The event is slated for Embu on Saturday and Sunday.
Though the Dalbit Petroleum team are content with second place in the battle for fuel Companies (who have entered the top sevens seeded drivers) they will be at pains to stamp their authority in Embu.
Tundo and Cavenagh emerged third and fourth after the grueling KCB Simba Savings Rally in Ngong and Suswa last month.
But Cavenagh noted that the performance was obviously not a bad way to start.
"We will obviously be looking to improve this next time out and first and second position is what we will be gunning for. The battle line has been drawn between the petroleum companies and Triton Sports appear to be the team to beat at the moment although Oilibya and the Anwar brothers (Asad and Azar) are also expected to be competitive," said Cavenagh.
Cavenagh who is renowned for his fearless flat out driving style, appeared to have backed off from his usual aggressive approach and was somewhat off the pace after stage one in Suswa although he bounced back with the fastest time on stage two proving that the flamboyant style for which he is best known has not left him.
Top drivers
"It was important for me and the team that I finished this event after such a poor season last year and I was definitely being cautious, too cautious, as it turned out on the first stage." Cavenagh said.
We were happy to get both cars to the end, particularly when Alastair s car developed a misfire in the final stages of the event," Tundo said.
The KCB Simba Savings Rally was an event one needed a perfect handling car for full confidence to commit to the super fast rough patches and dare devil jumps.
The top drivers were in a class of their own and the times showed it. Equally impressive despite the steering breakage was Ian Duncan whose rear wheel drive classic Ford Mustang excited the crowds with breathtaking sideway manoeuvres, a real treat for the spectators.
Lee Rose of Triton Rally team took an early lead of 80 points in the KCB KNRC setting a blistering pace as usual. But the surprise package was Baldev Chager who kept up with Triton Petroleum team mate (Rose) to finish a mere seven seconds behind.
