Members questioned the credibility of the Kenya National Examination Council and demanded that it seals loopholes that had led to bungled results.

Keiyo North MP, Mr Lucas Chepkitony, demanded an answer from the Minister for Education over the massive leakage of last year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations.

Education assistant minister, Mr Calist Mwatela, defended the council, arguing that despite the flaws, it was not necessary to cancel the examination results.

Said Mwatela: "The process of handling examinations is very rigorous, though not foolproof, as exam materials stay in some stations for long."

Lagdera MP, Mr Maalim Farah, urged the ministry to consider reviving the East African Examination Council so that Kenyan papers can be set and marked in Uganda and Tanzania to guard against pilferage.

But Mwatela said even those countries faced serious challenges.

Farah said leakages had become order of the day in examinations.

Mwatela said the ministry was tightening the examination system to seal loopholes that could dent credibility of the process.
