AN NCC licenced Nige rian company Globaltouch West Africa Limited, which offers Global Mobile Personal communication by satellite, last week announced that it has flagged off the construction of its gateway earth station at Kaduna state.

The gateway construction according to the company's chief executive, Eng. LA. Mohammed is being handled by reputable contractors and when completed by August, installation of the antennae and other associated equipment would follow.

Thje company which is promoted by a group of Nigerian investors led by General Yakubu Gowon, said it was poised to become the flagship in satellite based telecommunication in the Nigerian telecom market.

The satellite based Telecoms Company will offer mobile and fixed satellite voice telephony services, simplex and duplex data modems and cost effective flexible service packages.

According to Mohammed, the company is technically backed by the internationally renowned satellite company Globalstar Inc. which owns 30 percent of the company and with over 285,000 activated satellite voice and data units, Globalstar offers satellite services to commercial and recreational users in more than 120 countries around the world.

The company will also offer solutions for various asset tracking, personnel tracking, and data monitoring applications. The company believes that with Nigeria being rich in oil, natural gas and other remote natural resources, there is definitely potential demand for satellite voice and data services, capable of operating in areas far beyond the reach of terrestrial and other wireless communications infrastructure.

Mohammed even noted that his company has been working behind the scenes for many years in an effort to bring satellite services to Nigeria and the neighbouring countries including parts of the coastal Atlantic and Gulf of Guinea maritime region.

"we now have all the necessary regulatory approvals and funding and work and on the site in Kaduna has started and our primary goal is to provide reliable, cost effective communication for organizations and people, no matter where they are located in the region" he added.
