With only a few matches left before conclusion of proceedings in the Southern Stream Division One League, the league is turning into a circus with a significant number of teams failing to honour their league obligations.
Last weekend saw no less than four "walkovers" from the eight matches scheduled in the nationwide second tier division - a situation that has the potential to reduce the league into a mockery.
Black Marocco Chiefs played a 1-all stalemate against Deportivo Alaves at Mariental last Saturday, while Flying Eagles failed to pitch up for their home match against Friends at the same venue. Ambitious coastal outfit Namib Woestyn defeated Young Beauties by 3 goals to 1 to move within four points of log leaders Hotspurs, but the Sowetans have three matches in hand over their coastal rivals.
In Windhoek, Zambezi United did not bother making the short trip across town for their assignment against the visiting Desert Rollers - thus allowing the Gobabis-based outfit to return home with three valuable points in their bag without chasing any leather. After kicking their heels in frustration following the non-appearance of their opponents the previous day, Friends had no more interest in staying further in town, notably on a Sunday preceding Easter Monday and rather chose to hit the road back to Rehoboth.
Friends supposed opponents on Sunday, Black Marocco Chiefs, were the pride recipients of three valuable points on the green table - courtesy of Friends' no show. Eagles' truant game continued on Sunday, as the hosts persisted with their unquenchable desire to stay indoors, rather than confront their opponents on the field of play. Willy Swarts' Alaves willingly accepted the somewhat awkward hospitality with both hands and collected the three valuable points on offer without having to shed an ounce of sweat in the process.
Elsewhere, Monitronic College held Namib Woestyn to a goalless stalemate in Walvis Bay to move within a point of log leaders Hotspurs, but the students had played one game more than the Sowetans.
Zambezi United resurfaced on Sunday for their encounter with Nampol.

However, the cops wasted little time and inflicted more misery to their fellow strugglers with a narrow 1-Nil win - a result that leaves both teams rooted in the basement of the Southern Stream Division One log standings, alongside basement residents Flying Eagles.
