Globacom Nigeria, one of the leading GSM operators has said it is currently working on a scheme that will add 1,500 new base stations to its network nationwide.

It has also said it is increasing its network switch capacity to accommodate 35 million subscribers before the end of this year.

To this end, the second national carriers are committed to improving its network by striving to complete its optic fibre installations around the country.

Globacom's chief operating officer, Mr. Mohammed Jameel, made this known at the presentation of cars to winners of the 'win and rule promo" in Abuja yesterday.

The operating officer who was represented by Victor Ochukenyi of the company disclosed that in the last three weeks, the company has commissioned the installations in Minna, Enugu, Owerri and Onitsha aimed at making telecoms services, phones calls, data transmission and video communication more accessible and qualitative for Nigerians.

According to him, "the company as a truly Nigerian company is ploughing back its proceeds into building a first class network in Nigeria as well as investing heavily in its customers".

Jameel who revealed that the promo is in accordance with the laid down rules and procedures of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) stated also that the company is celebrating a resilient network that will continued to grow and earn the confidence of Nigerians.

"We have the approval of the regulatory body, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to go ahead with this promotional activity, having satisfied all the requirements of network quality service laid down by them", he stated.

Thus, following the approval, the NCC gave the telecoms company a vote of confidence on its quality of service and commitment to people's welfare.

He further said the presentation of cars was an opportunity for the company to express its gratitude to subscribers of the network for their patronage and loyalty to the network.

Ten cars, according to him, were presented to 10 lucky winners in this category of the win and rule promo and were chosen in an open transparent draw from among millions of subscribers who qualified in various recharge bands in line with the current promo.

It would be recalled that the NCC had in February banned all networks from running promotional activities, but Globacom was the only company given the nod to run promos and has as such resumed the promo which had been earlier suspended in compliance with the directive.
