Not surprisingly, yesterday I received a number of calls regarding the first part of this piece. Naturally, the callers wanted me to let them in on some details: names, publications etc., mentioned in the article.

Reminds me of when ADM did a story on the US$25,000 or was it US$125,000...? How time flies! That was also once a hot subject! That one too took weeks to burn itself out.

Though no name was mentioned, a "senior journalist" confessed to whatever it was and then went on the offensive or was it the defensive hacking away all over... Many years down the line and ADM has insisted on protecting the senior journalist's identity, though I understand another editor spilled the beans - after a fashion! I wince at this recollection because it tells me that all is not exactly well with the media, the 4th Estate, which wants to be treated as a nonpareil in our country's scheme of affairs.

Just look round and tell me: Who are the source of much of the confusion, misinformation, political intolerance and purveyors of ignorance for knowledge in our polity? Question: where are the other professionals?

Our good friend Joe, Joe Baidoe-Ansah was recently on the receiving end of the ire of the media fraternity for his (not my word) temerity to have a brush with Metro TV. How dare he?! Indignant media voices intoned and said he must be sanctioned. They passed judgement - all the public was told was that a senior public officer had misbehaved towards the media, but as to whether the media had broken any rules, no one was saying. Poor Joe, he eventually came out with a statement explaining whatever it was that had taken place to get him into such a bind with the all powerful, all wise infallible media...

Anything more would be whingeing, so let me end here. Cheers and thanks for the text messages yesterday!
