THE Chairman of the Namibian Bus and Taxi Association's (Nabta) Erongo branch, Abilas //Gaseb, resigned last month after having served the association for two decades.

//Gaseb started the Swakopmund Taxi Association in 1986, which eventually became an affiliate of Nabta two years later.

In 1990, he was appointed as Chairman of Nabta's Erongo branch, and later became one of the association's executive members.

"I felt the organisation needed new ideas and new blood to go further," he told The Namibian.

According to //Gaseb, he also had other responsibilities, being a councillor on the Swakopmund Town Council.

He said he enjoyed the co-operation he got from taxi owners and drivers over the years, especially when he had to make decisions based on existing legislation on behalf of the fast-growing industry.

Nabta Vice President Innocent Simasiku said it was unfortunate for the organisation to lose //Gaseb at this stage.
