Monrovia — The Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-information Services (LISGIS) announced Tuesday that work is ongoing to compile the data for provisional results of the 2008 Housing and Population Census.
LISGIS, a group which conducted the recent census, said the results will be made available to the Government and people of Liberia and development partners by the end of this month.
LISGIS' Executive Director Edward Liberty told a news conference yesterday that in line with international standards of conducting census, the Post Enumeration Survey (PES) is being planned and will be conducted in May.
He said sample of the enumeration areas used in the census will be revisited so as to ascertain the level of coverage and accuracy of the field enumeration exercise of the census.
Dr. Liberty explained that the design and selection of the sample to be used in the PES is expected to be done by a team of statisticians, demographers, mathematicians and economists from the University of Liberia and LISGIS, adding "data collected from the PES would then be used to validate the data collected during the enumeration exercise of March 21-30, 2008."
"We want to announce the successful completion of the field data collection exercise of the 2008 national population and housing census and to give information to the public on how we are proceeding with the census programme," the LISGIS Executive Director said.
He disclosed that data dictionary for the processing of the NHPC data has been defined, and a data entry screen for the capture of the data has been designed, while an aptitude test has been administered to interested applicants who want to serve as coders ad data entry clerks.
Dr. Liberty commended President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the people of Liberia, and development partners for their valuable support to the census program.
He said without support from the President, development partners and the Liberian people, the 2008 census would not have been successful.
He said LISGIS remains committed to its mandate of providing the requisite data needed for socio-economic planning and development process of the country.
