Gambia: Bai Ousman, Juwara Reappear in Court

Sanna Jawara

7 May 2008

Magistrate Mboto of the Banjul Magistrates Court, yesterday adjourned the criminal case involving Bai Ousman Secka, a former permanent secretary at the Department of State for Foreign Affairs and Batata Juwara, former protocol officer at the same department, to May 22, following the indisposition of the prosecution witness.

State prosecutor Shanaka informed the court about the absence of the witness, whom he said was absent due to an official mission.

The defence counsel, Awa Sisay-Sabally, assisted by Amie Joof-Conteh, raised no objection to the submission, but urged the state counsel to bring in the original correspondence (contains intention of resignation) of Isatou Njie, a former staff at the Department of State for Foreign Affairs.

In his reply, the state prosecutor promised to tender the documents in court, as requested by the defence team.
