Strange things do happen these days in Yaounde. A senior civil servant was recently caught red handed, at about midnight, as he tried to escape from the scene of an odious act which he just committed. And the act: making "mami and papa" with a mad woman!

The forces of law and order, on patrol, were attracted to the scene, a road-side hangar, by the cries of the mental patient. The mad woman was asking her midnight-lover to pay her for the services rendered. "Give me the money you promised", she screamed and held tight to the man's coat, making it difficult for him to escape.

Listen to the flimsy explanation which the culprit gave: "This is impossible. I thought I was dreaming", he said; referring to the fact that he must have been sleep-walking. What a hoax!

Those who had gathered at the scene wondered aloud why a proud handsome forty something-year-old man should commit such a nauseating act. But they quickly found an answer: "Ritualist, "jujuman". "He is looking for an appointment", they yelled, as the law enforcement officers whisked the shameless man off for further questioning.

One can never know the real motive of the act. And what if his name is ready over the radio one of these days? Incidents like these bring out the weird side of some "big ogas" in society.
