The Government is working on modalities to clearly define the roles of the Local Government and those of the Nairobi Metropolitan Development ministries.
Deputy Prime Minister and Local Government minister Musalia Mudavadi said a formula was being worked on to separate the roles of the two ministries in the management of Nairobi.
"We want to harmonise operations of the two ministries to avoid duplication of roles," said Mudavadi.
While speaking to The Standard on phone on Tuesday, Mudavadi said the two ministries had key roles to play in transforming the city and there was need to define their roles.
He said that he was in charge of the city in accordance with the Local Government Act Cap 265.
"The act has not been changed to move the City Council out of the Local Government ministry," said Mudavadi.
Nairobi Metropolitan Development ministry head by Mbooni MP Mutula Kilonzo is among the new ministries.
Mudavadi clarified that there were no problems between him and Kilonzo in the running of the city.
He further explained that Kilonzo's ministry had the duty of policy making, while his dealt with implementing of programmes.
Said Mudavadi: " There is no big deal, the roles will soon be outlined for the smooth running of the city."
Mudavadi, however, regretted that the City Council had failed taxpayers, adding that his ministry was working on reforms to streamline operations of the City Hall, for better service delivery.

He added that the ministry would give priority to fighting against corruption at the City Hall and settling of City Council workers' salary arrears.
