President Kibaki will on Monday lead the nation in a major fundraising to raise Sh30billion for the resettlement of the displaced.

The Government has invited all Kenyans to participate in the venture.

"Private companies, all leaders, Wananchi and other well-wishers are requested to support the Fund so that our brothers and sisters can be relocated to their homes," said Government Spokesman, Dr Afred Mutua, in a statement.

The Government had allocated Sh1 billion to establish the Humanitarian Fund, which is led by Archbishop Ndingi Mwana Nzeki, but requires about Sh30 billion. The presidential ceremony will launch the fundraising activities for the Fund so as to bridge the substantial financial gap.

"The resettling operation is proceeding better than was expected and the Government appreciates the fear some people have of going back to their homes but assures them that security has been beefed up.

"It may take time for some people to feel comfortable and the Government understands this. The resettlement is, however, for those who feel ready to go back to their homes and farms.
