Medical Services minister Anyang' Nyong'o will be sworn in on Thursday at State House, Nairobi.

The minister said arrangements for his swearing-in for Wednesday were put off at the last minute and rescheduled for Thursday. He said that until he took the oath of office, he could not attend to certain duties substantially.

Prof Nyong'o also announced that the Government would spend about Sh10 million to rebuild the Garissa District Hospital, which was destroyed by fire on Monday.

Investigated

He said that 70 patients who escaped the inferno are being mobilised and persuaded to return to the hospital to complete treatment.

The minister said the cause of the fire, which left a doctor and a nurse injured, was being investigated.

Prof Nyong'o said there was need to ensure that all districts have fire engines.

He thanked the provincial administration and the community for acting fast to help put out the blaze.
