The Association of Telecoms companies of Nigeria ATCON has relected new officers to run its affairs for the next one year.
Dr. Emmanuel E. Ekuwem, the President of the Association was unanimously re-elected as national president of the Association of Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria at its 15th Annual General Meeting; held in Lagos last week.
Ekuwem, also vice Chairman/CEO of Teledom International Limited, was elected to the position in 2006.
Also elected are Engr. Adebayo Banjo, of Disc Communications Limited as 1st Vice President, Engr. Gerry Ekesiani, Geosanna Digital Comm. Ltd, as 2nd Vice President, Engr. Gerry Ekesiani of Geosanna Digital Comm. Ltd as 2nd Vice President, Chief Babajide Odekunle of NERA Micro-wave Nigeria Ltd as National Secretary, Mr. David O. Roberts, of Accat Nigeria Limited as Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Nkoli Moka of EIL Telecoms Limited as Financial Secretary, Mau-reen Egbuna of Intercel-lular Nigeria Plc as Treasurer, Tony Nwosu, Global Access Limited as Sub -Group Coordinator:

Engr. Titi Omo-Ettu, chief executive officer, Executive cyberschuul, at the event called on the National Assembly to enact a law which would prevail on telecom operators to keep details of subscribers and such law should also compel subscribers to submit their correct data and it is in this light that the public needs to be enlightened.
He reiterated that telecommunication operators should build a database on information about their subscribers as that would be instrumental in checking sim card abuse. It was recommended that there be collaboration among all business sectors in actualizing this initiative.

Prof. Charles Uwadia; president of the Computer Society of Nigeria (CSN) in his addres noted that NITEL used to have a register of subscribers and that can also be done now, electronically which is even more convenient. He emphasized on the need to convince the National Assembly on this law.In his acceptance speech, the Atcon president stressed on the need to have an appropriate exhibition center in Nigeria and maintained that that can be achieved if member companies can pool resources together.
Ekuwem holds B.Sc. in Engineering Physics, M.Sc. in Physics and Electronics, M.Sc. in Electrical Engine-ering and Ph.D, in Electronic and electrical Engineering., MIEEE, MISOC, from Obafemi Awolowo University (University of Ife) Ile-Ife, Engr.(Dr.) Ekuwem was once assistant director (Technical Services) in the Aviation Ministry, a fellow of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)/ Tril Programme.
He is presently UNESCO's ICTP (Trieste,) regional coordinator of the Nigerian Universities Network (NuNeT).
