The commander of the the Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala, has warned the army against antagonising the public.

"The army depends on the wanainchi (citizens). Our success or failure depends on how they perceive us. I warn you never to antagonise the public. Don't abuse the trust the wanainchi have put in us," he said on Tuesday.

Wamala was presiding over the decoration of 65 officers who were promoted during a function at the army headquarters in Bombo. Army MP Grace Kyomugisha now becomes a captain. Wamala added: "We are under the scrutiny of the public. We must behave in an exemplary manner. Don't betray the trust that the Commander-in-Chief (President Yoweri Museveni) has placed in you through the promotions you have achieved as a result of hard work. "The promotions did not fall from heaven like manna. It is your challenge to keep the ranks you have attained and strive for more."

Wamala noted: "In geography, they say that the higher you go the cooler it becomes. But in the military, we say, the higher you go, the hotter it becomes. We expect you to deliver diligently."

Bombo camp commandant, Brig. Hussein Adda, said: "It took you many years to get to these positions but it takes you a minute to destroy yourself."
