President Yoweri Museveni, the chairman of the East African Community (EAC), is to attend a three-day investment conference in Kigali, Rwanda.

The conference starts on June 26, reports David Muwanga.

Museveni will give a keynote address before the Rwandan president Paul Kagame officially opens the forum.

The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) is registering investors and businesspeople who want to attend the event.

The meeting is the first edition of the East African Investment Conference, Dr. Jolly Murungi, the UIA director, said. It will be under the theme "Leveraging the East African Market through Trade and Investment."

Prominent businessmen like Patrick Bitature and James Mulwana are expected to attend.

Topics for discussion include trade and investment opportunities, finance, agro-business, tourism and energy.

"We are inviting Ugandan businesspeople to register," she said.

The conference is expected to attract 700 leading business executives to showcase the theme as well as highlight the region's potential as a commercial platform for servicing the continent, Murungi said.
