Lubango — A provincial commission of disarmament of citizens in illegal possession of guns in the southern Huila Province was officially presented to the public on Wednesday, in Lubango City, at a press conference.
The commission's spokesman, Joao Rodrigues de Castro, said the commission is to be chaired by the deputy governor for social and economic matters, Adrino da Silva, assisted by the local police commander, Simão Keta.
It also comprises the directors of the departments of family issues and women promotion, public works, justice, energy and waters, defence, youth and sports, social communication, as well as representatives of the civil society.
The commission will hold next week a seminar on disarming civilians.
Since the beginning of the process of disarming civilians in illegal possession of fire-arms, in March this year, in Huila Province about 1,987 weapons have been voluntarily handed over to the police.
