Tunisia: Six Women Artists Exhibit Their Works in Sidi Bou Said in Unique Collaborative Venture

8 May 2008

Tunis — Tunis , May 2008- From May 9 to 21, 2008 , six women artists will exhibit their works at the Sidi Bou Said Museum. All in all, a 100 works from Chantal Slim, Mouna Drissi Bouassida, Catherine Lemdani, Noudhar Mestiri Maherzi, Aicha Cherif and Raoudha Ben Mlouka Kochbati, will be on display at the Museum, a stone's throw from the famous "Café des nattes", where the majestic view on the Gulf of Tunis and its Mediterranean blue seas, have inspired many a painter.

In spite of the fact that it is the 5 th time these six women artists have collaborated to a painting exhibit, the event promises to be as original as ever. Indeed the keen gallery goer will be able to appreciate portraits, still life, abstract paintings, China ink, and acrylic both on canvass and wood.

Incidentally, their collaboration is as unique as their works, as it consists of an infallible evaluating system: each time one of the painters has completed a work for the exhibit , the five others come together to give their judgement on it.

"We are very critical", says Mouna Drissi, "even if the critiques are constructive and positive, and we end up agreeing together", she added.

Surprisingly, the six artists do not share the same background, being respectively French, Dutch and Tunisian, however "this cultural diversity is our strength", says Raoudha Ben Mlouka, who along with her five fellow artists, is already at work on another project, but who, nevertheless, will be present for the private view of the exhibition on May 9 at 6:30pm.
