Monrovia — A violent storm has reportedly destroyed many homes and left several families internally displaced in the commercial city of Ganta, Nimba County.
Nimba County District #4 Representative Nohn Rebecca Kidau said several homes were damaged as a result of the storm, which hit the city last Monday.
She said the storm left many persons homeless and noted that similar storm swept several homes in Ganta last year.
She attributed the recurrence of the storm to the lack of trees in Ganta especially those areas that were severely affected.
Madam Kidau: "We are encouraging our citizens to start planting trees in their various communities to prevent winds; it is a long term solution because the trees will have to mature."
Representative Kidau is appealing to international partners to assist victims of the storm with materials to erect emergency shelters.
She said her local office is working to come out with the figure of those affected by the storm.
