A new site has been previewed for traders in medication who formerly occupied a section of the Douala Central market. The initial site where the traders were at the Central market was too small.

But the new location that has been chosen is still being arranged by the Douala City Council although the traders already consider it small. The new location is behind Hotel Aristha, around Nkoluloun. Most of the traders are involved in medication while a few others carry out different activities.

Walking through the area earlier occupied by the traders in the Central Market, CT noted that the Douala City Council has sent out all the traders and work has begun on the site. In spite of the start of work at the old site, some recalcitrant traders are reluctant to leave. However, at the new site behind Aristha Hotel, a good number of the traders have already installed their shades and are doing business. The Council has also constructed some few structures which are yet to be completed. The few traders who have already moved to the new site, seemed to have already filled up the whole area.

Talking to Patrick and Gaston, who preferred to withhold their surnames, trading in medications at the new site, they said the site has not yet been officially handed to them. They said they have just moved to the site because they were driven out of their old location and they have no where else to go.

They added that the site has already become small for all of them considering the fact that some of their friends are still at the old site. They expressed the desire for the city council to extend the area so that it can be able to accommodate all of them.
