The North West Province will in the months ahead get its own share of Industrial Zones. If one were to go by the saying that "an industrial zone is a developed area" then the North West Province is yet to be developed as there are no industries in this area.

The Cameroon government has as one of its objectives the establishment of Industrial Zones in all the 10 Provinces in the Country. Against this backdrop, the Industrial Zone Development and Management Authority MAGZI was in Bamenda recently to launch the process of the creation of Industrial Zones in the North West. The team headed by the Deputy General Manager of MAGZI Mabiom Akobord Christopher took time off to visit the proposed sites in Nkwen and Bali.

Presenting the project for the North West, Mabiom Akobord Christopher disclosed that the proposed site has 100 hectares of land each. He added that, feasibility studies are under way to ensure a smooth realization of the project. He said the North West is one of the areas in Cameroon which is yet to have an industrial zone consequently the government has put everything at their disposal to ensure that industrial zones go operational soonest. Amidst fears of the claiming of the land by MAGZI, he assured the mayors, traditional rulers as well as the public that the land will remain a government land. Adding that should in case MAGZI, finishes with its activities it will eventually leave the land and hand it back to the government. He said MAGZI only rents or lease out land to industries and added that MAGZI is the sole distributor of land to industries in Cameroon. Meanwhile the sub director of works in MAGZI Ndifor Patrick revealed that the North West Province was in their master plan since 1980.He added that they are more determined now than ever to achieve their objectives.

The Legal and Financial Affairs Adviser to the governor's office Sama Benjamin appeal to all the traditional rulers, mayors, and the entire population of the North West to cooperate. He requested them to be optimistic and give MAGZI a try. He reminded them of some of the advantages of industries in an area, such as the creation of jobs, provision of roads, electricity, water and others. MAGZI was created by the government in 1974 with a mission to develop and manage industrial zones in the country by providing the said zones with roads, railways, wastewater, river water treatment systems, drinking water supply electricity, telephone and others.
