Angola: European Commission Invests 500 Million Euros

8 May 2008

Luanda — The European Union has invested about 500 million Euros used in various types of undertakings in Angola.

This was disclosed Wednesday in Luanda by the ambassador and head of the European Commission (EC) office to Angola, João Gabriel Ferreira, during a press conference on the occasion of the celebrations of the European Day, on Friday, May 9.

João Ferreira explained that the amount does not reflect the reality due to the running devaluation of the US dollar over the years.

According to him, the EC, through its member states, implemented in Angola several projects linked to rural development, construction of 20 bridges and drinking water systems, as well as rehabilitation of roads.

On the other hand, the source added that 214 million Euros have been made available for the development of future undertakings.

He also spoke of a strategic document that will be valid until 2013 for the implementation of EC future undertakings.

João Ferreira stated as well that the 214 million Euros will fund traditional projects of bilateral cooperation, plus others that will be implemented within the framework of the African Portuguese Speaking Counties (PALOP)' programme.
