Some years back, most men of God were cherished and respected like God the Almighty. Many people felt relieved and even cured of their ailments simply by talking to them. This is when most priests and pastors lived exemplary lives. The profession was a calling. And they dedicated their lives to be true shepherds of God's flock.

Today, however, some of our "papa pastors", "brodas" and "faadas" are everything except models of moral probity. They are now more interested in earthy things. They want to drive the best cars, spin around with the toughest chaps, put on designer's cloths and exotic perfumes...

But who pays for all these? Their parishioners, of course! They are the ones who are feeling the heat. Little wonder, the other day, a so-called man of God was furious when he realised that the offering basket was full of red coins.

"You are selfish to God and don't blame Him if he starts becoming selfish to you people", he rebuked. And guess what? He sent the basket around again! The guy needed the cash; maybe for one of his extra-religious activities. For, if this was not the case, how come his car was spotted at a "red light" that evening. Who is fooling who?
