HDP Summit to Focus on Partnership & Procurement Between Leading Aid Agencies and the Private Sector

The Humanitarian Development Program (HDP) is delighted to announce the 3rd Summit organised to bring together key decision makers in the aid and development community to work more closely with the international business community.

The summit will focus on Disaster Management and Preparedness, with two days dedicated to partnership and procurement between UN agencies, NGOs, donors and the international private sector. The timing of the summit could not be better, with emergencies such as the recent cyclone in Burma and floods in Africa posing ever greater challenges for the aid and development community.

The mandate of the event is to consider in detail how the relationship between aid agencies, UN bodies, donors and the global private sector can fulfil the specific aims of increasing efficiency, effectiveness and the impact of disaster emergency response mechanisms, developing warning systems, minimising potential loss, improving standards and best practice, strengthening community-based response and integrating individual agency requirements.

Nairobi provides a wonderful location for the summit to take place, as the launch pad for any organisation looking to work within the developing world and the best place to meet with high level officials.

The summit is based on a successful format that sees half the time devoted to key content and the other half to face-to-face consultation. Topics include procurement and long-term framework agreements, inter-agency relations, accountability, logistics, emergency response and the issue of aid versus development, while dedicated roundtables providing the ideal forum for detailed discussion between agency officials and the business community.
