Less than 48 hours to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag off of the governorship campaign of Chief Timipre Sylva in the ordered re-run election in Bayelsa State, the state secretariat was in the early hours of yesterday attacked with explosives suspected to be dynamites.

Aside from destruction of electrical appliances due to the heavy vibrations that followed the attack, the office of the party woman leader. Mrs. Nengi Ebitimi was badly damaged that none of the valuables including electronics were spared.

Also, shattered window panes, railings, ceilings and electronics littered the office of the party woman leader with some smashed wood hanging dangerously on account of the overwhelming impact. This would be second dynamite attack on the PDP Secretariat in the state.

Residents of the Yenezue-gene area, where the PDP secretariat is located were gripped with fear as the impact of the explosion was so much that they immediately scamper for safety and abandon their homes as the deafening sound that rocked the building was mistaken for morta attack.

However, when normalcy was restored by the men of the anti-robbery squad that arrived the scene, it was discovered that the actual explosion came from the party headquarters in which the office of the woman leader was devastated.

A stick of dynamite was reportedly hauled at the two storey building from the rear by the unknown assailants shattering ceiling, window panes as well as causing a deep crater where it landed.

The invaders were said to have launched their attack on the party secretariat from behind by scaling through fence. Some residents of the area who spoke with newsmen confirmed that the explosion was heralded by gunshots. It was reported that the armed youths may have released volley of gun shots to forestall possible resistance from neighbours as well as to divert the attention of the security men infront the sprawling complex.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but it was learnt that it might have been carried out by some mischief makers so as to create a sense of insecurity and prevent the President, Alhaji Umaru Yar'Adua, his vice, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan from leading a high powered PDP delegation to the state capital for the flag off campaign of Chief Timipre Sylva slated for Saturday.

LEADERSHIP visit to the damaged secretariat showed that a team of policemen has arrived and codoned the premises while others were stationed at the entrance leading to the complex.LEADERSHIP round the devastated portion of the building said the explosive device, which was hauled into the party secretariat from behind through a resident building landed insided the office of Mrs. Ebitimi on the second floor before it went off.
