Kampala — A NEW technology, to track stolen mobile phones and laptops, has been launched.
The search-and-find technology is similar to the car-track system but tailor-made for a wide range of items.
Top officials at Contact Centre Ltd, an IT services company in Kampala, said the asset management and care service would ensure property security.
"Our aim is to reduce the market for stolen property in the short-term but in the long-run, institute a culture of professional asset management as one of the personal and corporate investment functions," said Michael Mwebaze, the managing director.
"In the event of loss or theft, the register assists in providing the information that will aid the tracking and location of the item. An electronic devise concealed in the registered item sends messages to the owner when it is stolen or misplaced," Mwebaze explained.
The firm, he said, had responded to the growing thefts of mobile phones, laptops and digital cameras.
"We have so far gathered a lot of information on public movement and common areas of theft, burglary, item misplacement and enterprise asset disuse around four East African countries," Mwebaze said.
"We are now appointing agents in readiness to launch in each of the East African countries. This entails a lot of time and investment."
The firm is opening counters at Posta on Kampala Road.
