THE Government should set up remand homes in every district so that child crime suspects are not imprisoned with adults, an MP has advised.

The chairperson of the Parliamentary Forum for Children, Ruth Tuma, was on Wednesday speaking after touring Fort Portal remand home in Kabarole district.

The Jinja district Woman MP observed that many remand homes were in pathetic condition and needed improvement.

She said Naguru Remand Home in Kampala was one such facility in need of urgent attention.

Tuma was accompanied by fellow members of the forum, Winnie Kiiza (Kasese Woman) and Jane Alinsemera (Bundibugyo Woman), officials from Save the Children and local leaders.

The cleanliness of the Fort Portal remand home impressed Tuma.
