UGANDA plans to host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) annual awards in the near future.

FUFA boss Lawrence Mulindwa recently revealed plans of applying for the prestigious annual ceremony where the continent's crème de la crème is honoured.

FUFA will, on the eve of its August 29 general assembly, stage its own local awards ceremony.

The Confederation of African Football body will be represented at the event.

Mulindwa explained that CAF's presence will be the initial step in FUFA's ultimate plan to host the continental event.

"The best players, coaches, administrators and even journalists are to be recognised for their contribution to Ugandan football," he explained.

Sevilla's Frederick Kanoute won this year's CAF award in Lome, Togo.

Among the 25 awards for the local ceremony will be one for the top goalkeeper, best defender, top midfielder and top goal scorer.

There will also be a category for the women's footballer of the year, FUFA delegate of the year and school team of the year.

Each region is to nominate its best delegate for a regional award after which the best overall delegate will be chosen.

FUFA is borrowing a leaf from journalists' body, the Uganda Sports Press Association, that has for over three decades been recognising outstanding sports personalities on an annual basis.

Moses Kipsiro won last year's top sports personality award by the scribes.
