RWANDA is analysing the strengths and weaknesses of key service sectors ahead of the negotiations on the East Africa Community (EAC) common market.

The country wants to become a regional services hub by 2010 when a fully-functional regional customs union comes into force, ambassador Dr. Richard Sezibera, the presidential special envoy and the chairman of regional integration committee, said on Tuesday.

He disclosed that telecoms, finance, transport and insurance, were some of the service sectors the country was banking on.

"We intend to be the services hub to the community. So before we embark on these negotiations, it is important for Rwanda to have a strong understanding of her own offensive and defensive interests," Sezibera said at the regional consultative workshop on liberalisation in Kigali.
