Kampala — THEYwere tipped by music pundits as one of the groups to watch out for this year. Tonight, Viva Stars will launch their first album, Koona Endongo, in a grand do at Theatre La Bonita and at Sese Gateway Beach in Entebbe on Sunday.
The album has tracks like Ansuuta, Namatimbo, Kantambule and Gwe Nsonga, a mellow gospel take. The girls have promised to give their fans snippets into songs like Musumali, Sing Together and Viva Forever, off their upcoming album.
Artistes Bebe Cool, Silver Kyagulanyi, Henry Tigan, Toolman, Phina Mugerwa and Super FM's Abazeyi b'e Burma comedians are lined up as opening acts.
At Theatre Labonita, entrance fee is sh20,000 VIP and sh10,000 others, while patrons at Sese Gateway Beach will part with sh5,000. Gates open at 6:00pm and 2:00pm at both shows.
Last year, the girls shed off their initial pop image that had made us label them a tacky cross between the Obsessions and the Dream Galz.
Their manager, Vianney Tushabe, repackaged the group as a home-grown girl troupe, with African voices and roots.
The revolution kicked off with one of their better-known songs, Akashozi, a folklore style Runyankore hit.
The song won them a large following in Tanzania.
Although the girls are still far from cutting out their own identity, the brand name, Viva Stars, has seen a continuous upward spiral.
