Yumbe — Yumbe District is set for more enlightened deliberations after seven councillors including the vice chairman, Mr Kassim Ayisuga chose to go back to school.
Mr Ayisuga and Mrs Alice Candiru, the female councilor for Odravu Sub-county are in their first year pursuing Bachelor of Business Studies degree at IUIU Arua campus.
Others include; secretary for Health, Mr Miria Yasin, pursuing Diploma in Public Administration at IUIU Arua campus; the Deputy speaker Mrs Saudah Buga, pursuing a Bachelor of Development Studies at KIU; Secretary for Gender, Ms Marion Asibazuyo doing diploma in Social works and social administration in Nsamizi Institute of Social Development; councilor for PWDs, Mr Drakiri Hakim Soto in senior five in Aringa SS and councilor for Odravu, Mr Sam Acema Okujo now for in his senior six vacation.
Mr Acema who studied History, Economics, Divinity and Geography got 15 points and is likely to be admitted to any of the public universities under the district quota admission system.
The district speaker, Mr Adinan Candiga said he hopes further education will enhance the legislative capacity of the councilors so that they are able to make resolutions that can better the lives of the rural communities.
Mr Candiga who recently completed a certificate in Administrative Law said the studies have not affected any council business.
