Bauchi State Government has inaugurated a seven-man committee to look into the possibility of establishing a teaching hospital.

Governor Isa Yuguda while inaugurating the committee in Bauchi said it was high time the state had a teaching hospital.

The governor said the hospital when established, would handle referral cases from secondary health institutions in the state.

He said the proposal was because the Jos and Maiduguri teaching hospitals could not cater for the health needs of the entire north eastern region.

"There is need for a teaching hospital that will work with lower health institutions not only for the benefit of the people of Bauchi State, but also for neighbouring states.

"The decision to establish a teaching hospital in Bauchi State was further informed by the availability of highly skilled manpower in most of the teaching hospitals in the country.

"It is our belief that this category of experts would easily be attracted to the State from Kano, Jos and Maiduguri teaching hospitals," Yuguda said.

He charged members of the committee to use their wealth of experience and produce a road map for the establishment of the hospital.

Yuguda urged the committee to justify the need for a teacing hospital in the state and identify and recommend where to locate it.

He also urged the committee to determine the cost of establishing such a hospital, recommend sources of funding as well as manpower for its take-off.

The governor also mandated the committee to use any document on previous attempts for similar exercise.
