Amir Khan is to battle former British super featherweight champion, Michael Gomez in Birmingham on 21 June.

The fight will be Khan's first fight working with coach Dean Powell, following the Bolton star's split with Oliver Harrison last month. The 21-year-old is unbeaten in 17 professional fights and he believes Gomez will be a different proposition.

"Gomez will walk forward into my punches and I expect it to be an explosive fight," he said.

"If he starts mouthing off and getting into my face it will be part of the experience for me. To be honest, I think I'm above this domestic level now, but each fight is bringing something different. There is no way Gomez is going to be as fit as me so I expect a spectacular stoppage."

The career of 30-year-old Gomez appeared to be over when he suffered back-to-back losses against Javier Alvarez and Peter McDonagh in 2005.

He returned for a domestic title shot against Carl Johanneson only for Gomez to be stopped in the sixth round, but he has vowed to claim his greatest victory next month against Khan.

"Amir's a very good fighter but he's never fought anyone like me. I'm going to take him out of his comfort zone and get in his face before the first bell has even sounded.

"He doesn't have a good right hand and his punch resistance is not too good. People have doubted me throughout my career but the run-of-the-mill fights just don't interest me.

"I save my best for the big occasion. I went to Scotland to fight Alex Arthur, who had a virtually identical record to Amir, and I blew him away in the fifth round. I'm going to do the same thing to Khan.

He added: "I'm not here to make up the numbers.

"It's my 31st birthday on the night of the fight and I plan on giving myself the best possible birthday present. I will bring endless heart and a massive punch."
