Former president Olusegun Obasanjo said yesterday that he had not received any official invitation from the House of Representatives to appear before the committee on power, currently investigating the power sector.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu had said on Tuesday that the committee had sent invitation letters to Obasanjo, former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar and former minister of Finance, Mrs. Nenadi Usman, to appear before it on Monday, May 2 to explain all they know about the alleged $16.5 billion scam.
But speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday, the personal assistant to the former president, Mr. Adeoba Ojekunle said his boss was yet to receive the invitation.
"When the news of the alleged invitation letter to the former president to appear before the House of Representatives committee looking into the expenditure on power from 1999 to 2007 was broken, he (Obasanjo) sent me to Ota to see if any such invitation was in Ota as reported in the press," Ojekunle said.
Explaining that Obasanjo had directed him to remain in Ota specifically to collect the invitation letter as soon as it arrived, Ojekunle said Obasanjo now lives in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
"Such a letter has not been delivered in Ota up to this moment (mid-day yesterday)," he added.

"I remained in Ota so as to forward any such invitation to the former president in Abeokuta for his reaction or follow-up action."
But the committee secretary, Alhaji Salisu Y. Ahmed told LEADERSHIP last night that Obasanjo was duly invited to appear before the panel on Monday.
"The letter was dispatched on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 through DHL and I am telling him that he has been invited. The letter is no longer with us, we sent it through DHL. And you know this courier companies when you send something they must deliver,"the secretary said.
