Among the many Nigerians trooping in to condole the family of the late Kaduna State police commissioner, Mr Haz Iwendi, was the former inspector general of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, Kaduna State acting governor, Patrick Yakowa and inspector-general, Sir Mike Okiro, and his colleagues from across the country.

Coomassie, the Sardauna of Katsina, extolled the virtues of the late commissioner of police in the condolence register, describing him as a good officer and an outstanding administrator. "He was a good officer. He made his mark when we were at FHQ.

"He was excellent in the field and an outstanding police public relations officer. Iwendi was also a friendly and effective commissioner of police in Kaduna State. I last saw him two Saturdays ago, when he attended a book launch of my father. He is a great loss to the police force and the nation. May God look after what he left behind", he said.

The current inspector general of police, Sir Mike Okiro, noted in his last respect for his former police public relations officer at the Force Headquarters that the force and the nation have lost a dedicated officer who will be difficult to replace at this crucial period.

He said, "We have lost a gem; we have lost a duty conscious officer. May his soul rest in perfect peace".

Though acting governor of Kaduna State, Mr Patrick Yakowa, did not comment on the late CP, there was no doubt that he was in grief as he quietly condoled the wife of the late CP, Mrs Oluwakemi Iwendi and the family.

Niger State commissioner of Police, Sir Paul Iseghohi, however, could not hold back the tears as he wondered why death should take away his colleague and friend.

Wife of the deputy governor of Kaduna State, special advisers, special assistants, commissioners, other government officials, police officers and clergymen were among the people who were at the Tafawa Balewa Way residence of the late Iwendi yesterday to pay their last respect to him, and commiserate with the family.
