Palpable fears has now gripped residents of Ogoniland following recent killing of about 11 persons in various communities in the area.

LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the killing of the 11 ogoni persons which has been on since last week has resulted into tight security in the area.

Sources also revealed that on May Day, while workers were savouring the public holiday, the hoodlums invaded B-Dere in Gokana local government area (LGA), killing about four persons.

The invaders, who rode on a motorbike, were accosted by a group of people in the community who suspected their movement. But in an attempt to know the content of the bags the motorcycle riders were carrying, the suspects sprayed bullets on them, killing four persons on the spot.

Some community sources said that only two persons died on the spot, while the other two were rushed to the hospital in a critical condition.

Three days later, on May 4, the hoodlums invaded Kira community in Tai LGA killing seven persons.

It was not possible to establish the motive behind these attacks, but sources attributed it to the gruesome manner in which Comrade Monday Babah, the community's youth leader was murdered recently.

It was said that some youths of the area were fingered for Babah's killing hence "his supporters are now on what one can call a vengeance mission."

It was further reasoned that some youths of Kira, who were recently banished from the place for an alleged crime, were trying to stage a forceful come-back and this resulted to physical combat between the returnees and the home boys.
