ANAMBRA State deputy governor, Dame Virgy Etiaba and the state branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) have called on the Federal Government to immortalize the late former vice chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Jadeshola Akande in recognition of her contributions to the growth of law and academics in the country.

At a forum in Awka to celebrate Akande, the deputy governor described her as an accomplished educationist, human rights fighter and an uncompromising defender of the constitution and rule of law, adding that she made history when she became the first female professor of law in the country.

According to Etiaba, that feat instantly made Akande a role model and a source of inspiration and recalled her words of wisdom when she led a delegation of female activists to Anambra State during her brief period as governor of the state in 2006.

The deputy governor also observed that the late professor's commentaries and contributions on gender issues had remained unequalled.
