The Deputy Chief Whip, Enugu State House of Assembly, Dr Paul Aniekwe, has advocated the use of the Igbo Language during the house deliberations on a particular day of the week.

Aniekwe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that the measure would help promote and preserve the Igbo Language.

He said because of neglect, the language was gradually going extinct, adding that a tribe without language had lost its identity.

The lawmaker posited that if the House accepted the proposal, members would appear on traditional attire on such day."One of the legislative functions of the House is to preserve the cultural heritage of the people they represent," Aniekwe said.

The lawmaker urged parents and guardians to always make out time to teach their children and wards the tradition and historical profile of the Igbo race.

He described as unfortunate and unacceptable a situation where children of Igbo descent could not spell their Igbo names correctly, adding that it was a big shame.
