The national junior and senior lawn tennis championship commenced on Wednesday at the National Stadium Lawn tennis court at different categories.

In the opening U-12 category, Sorie Kamara from Southern Province defeated Mohamed Kamara of Western Area 6-2 in a set match.

In the second match, Brima Kanu from Northern Province lost to Emmanuel Kamara from Western Area 6-3.

In a double Western Area encounter, Abdulai Bangura defeated Ibrahim Turay 6-4, while John Marah defeated his Western Area colleague, Issa Kamara 6-4.

In the female category, Mariatu Bangura lost to Saffie Conteh 6-4.

Yesterday, in the same category, Brima Koroma of Southern Province defeated J. Koite of Western Area 21-5 and Osman Bah lost to A. Conteh 21-18.

Sahr Willie and Amadu Bangura both lost their matches against S. Kargbo 6-2 and Ibrahim Turay 6-4 respectively.

In the U-18 category, Amadu Bangura achieved a comfortable win over his Western Area colleague, Osman Sesay as he bated him off for 9-1 in a set game.

Also on the winning list was Fuad Kargbo with an enjoyable 9-3 win over Mannah Bangura both of Western Area.

Yayah Koroma lost to Emmanuel Lansana 9-6 which saw Lansana qualified to the quarterfinals.

Abu Bakar Bangura also enjoyed a comfortable win over Osman Kamara 9-2, while Emmanuel Baimba got an easy work-over as Ibrahim Tarawallie did not turn-up for his match.
