After persistent lobbying from senior executive members within the All Peoples Congress, the only independent candidate who was supposedly the greatest threat to the APC's chance of winning the mayor-ship in Makeni has stepped down.
Thomas Tarawallie was formally of the APC but decided to contest as an independent candidate after he was refused the APC symbol for mayor-ship which was given to Moses Sesay for the forthcoming local council elections.
Tarawallie registered and was nominated as an independent candidate at the NEC office in Makeni and has decided to give up the fight because since his registration he has been faced with pressure from executive members for him to return to the APC.
Tarawallie is said to be one of the heavy weight behind the APC in Makeni and has thus been called upon to return so that the party will not be in shambles.
He said the district is the home of the president and thus should regain it strength, which was being shattered because of him going as an independent candidate, once again.
Tarawallie said the media in Makeni is not in his favour of him. He added that since his nomination, no journalist has covered his campaign activities, but his opponent Moses Sesay is everyday loud on the radios.

He said the major reason for his return is because he has received apologies from the president through the minister of information Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo asking him to step down and join forces with the APC candidate.
Tarawallie said he had no intension to divide the APC but was only exercising his democratic right.
Reacting on behalf of the journalists in Makeni to the allegations made by Tarawallie, the northern regional secretary general of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Stanley Bangura said Tarawallie has never extended an invitation to journalists to cover his activities and besides he has never done any activity that is news worthy to journalists. He added that there is no reason to marginalize Tarawallie since all political candidates are treated equally.
