A member of Imo State House of Assembly representing Obowo State Constituency, Honourable Celestine Ogobiwu, was on Wednesday evening kidnapped in Owerri, while returning from a gym, close sources said.

Ngobiwu was said to have sent out his driver on an errand and decided to drive alone in his car when the unidentified persons attacked and abducted him to an undisclosed destination.

By yesterday morning, his abductors had called to demand N4million ransom. Speaking to THISDAY on telephone, Committee Chairman on Information, Due Process and Parliamentary Matters, Honourable Ray Emeana, confirmed the incident and promised to call back as soon as he recieves more information. Also confirming the story, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, Nze Law Biaduo, told THISDAY that he learnt about the incident even though he was out of town.

Meanwhile, the State Police Command could not be reached as at the time of filing this report. However, sources close to the Police indicated that no official report had been lodged on the issue.

This incident brings to about five cases of kidnap of prominent indigenes of the state in the past two weeks.
