Swapo Party yesterday joined the scores of friends, families and colleagues in extending messages of condolence to Attorney General Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana.

A message by the Deputy Secretary General of SWAPO, Nangolo Mbumba, described the death of Ithana as a shock to the entire Namibian fraternity.

"On behalf of the Swapo Party leadership, the entire rank and file members of the Swapo Party and indeed on my own behalf, I extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to you, the children and the entire bereaved Ithana family during this time of sorrow," said Mbumba.

Ithana was one of the forefront members of Swapo, who actively engaged in the party's activities during its formative years. The late Ithana joined Swapo in April of 1960 at the age of 22. He went on to become a key member of the political organisation, with his notable presence felt with his connection to the United Nations Institute for Namibia (UNIN) in Zambia, and at one time he was also the acting head of the centre.
