The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), established by the Open Society Initiative of West Africa (OSIWA) is organising a Research Methodology course for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Ghana from May 23 and 24 2008.
Rationale
It has been generally acknowledged that although many CSOs do not have an explicit focus on changing policy, they are important reservoirs of research expertise.
The main rationale for this training programme is to strengthen the research capacity of CSOs to assist them in the identification of critical issues related to socio-economic and democratic process development in the catchment areas in which they work. This seminar is therefore designed to develop skills of participants to enable them perform marketing research effectively. This course on research strategies is crafted in a refreshing multidimensional format. Whilst the course deals with research methodology as an overarching corporate strategy, it also exposes participants to the more operational aspects of market research. This course is presented in a lively interactive format and will be delivered within a Two (2) working day session.
The objectives of the course are:
§ Enhance participants' research design and report writing skills
§ To improve the participants' writing skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques of data collection and analysis.
§ Expose participants to the operational aspects of market research.
§ For each participant to practice designing a research or evaluation project.
Programme Content
§ The Role of Research in the Development of Successful CSO and NGO Programmes.
§ Undertaking Effective Market Research in the CSO Environment.

§ Appreciation of the critical role research plays in successful programmes.
