Dodoma

Two Catholic sisters were among 15 people who died when a bus and a truck collided on Friday morning.

Sr. Neeta Baa S.M.I. and a Sr. Renita died on the Morogoro-Dodoma Road, according to information received by the Salesian Eastern Africa Province in Nairobi.

The two nuns had taken a shuttle service Friday morning from Morogoro to Dodoma after their Provincial Chapter. The other sisters remained in Morogoro to celebrate the jubilee of Sr. Ancy on Saturday.

The sisters occupied the front seats of the shuttle and died instantly when the accident occurred. Their extensively damaged bodies were taken to Dodoma for burial there on Saturday.

Fr Babu Augustine SDB in Nairobi described Sr. Neeta, from Madya Pradesh, India, as "a very friendly and humble sister who had great love for God and the poor."

He remembered her as follows: "In the three years I worked in Dodoma I knew her very closely. She was very regular in sending me Christmas and Easter greetings. In fact, only a few days ago she had called to inform me that she was going to India to attend her sister's wedding. Her only brother passed away not so long ago. Her dad had passed away few years ago. Her poor mother has to receive yet more sad news!

"The community of Don Bosco Boys' Town sends our heartfelt condolences to the S.M.I. Sisters and pray that the Lord may give them the courage to accept this tragic event!

Let us keep these two sisters in our prayers! May they rest in peace!"
