Angola: MPLA President Guarantees Special Attention to Women

The President of MPLA, José Eduardo dos Santos, Friday here guaranteed that the government and the ruling party's programme will pay particular attention to women.

"The female electorate must deserve a particular attention, taking into account that the country has more women than men", he said while presiding over the opening ceremony of the Third National Conference of the ruling party, taking place in Futungo II Complex.

According to Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who is also the president of the Republic of Angola, MPLA will seek to meet the wishes of women concerning the opportunities, labour safety and security within family, gender equality and the respect for their rights.

He assumed the compromise of achieving the goal of thirty percent of women in Parliamentary bench of MPLA at the next legislature, and in his Government.

Eduardo dos Santos referred that other extract of population that will also deserve particular attention is the youth, because the majority of the electorate is very young, who wish for a better life and their own concern of their age group, such as jobs, academic and professional training and house.

Thus, he assured, MPLA has credible and realizable responses in his Government Programme for this sector of voters.

The Third National Conference of MPLA gathers 1,500 delegates from 18 provinces of Angola, among them non-members of the governing party, who were invited due to their professional and technical capacities.

During the meeting, there will be discussed and approved the Government programme for 2009/2012 and MPLA electoral manifesto for next September legislative poll.
