Kenya: PM Calls for Teamwork in Cabinet

Nairobi — Prime Minister Raila has called on ministers and their assistants to work together as a team in the spirit of national cohesion and collective responsibility.

Speaking at Kenya School of Monetary Studies, yesterday Raila said public wrangles would indicate a confused government.

"We are one Government serving one people. Any competition should be limited at the level of ideas and ideals," he said.

He said despite the Government being composed of ODM and PNU members, the ministers had the duty to serve Kenyans.

"You will not see me contradict the President in public and the same must apply to you. I will not introduce ODM policies in Cabinet neither shall President Kibaki introduce PNU policies. We will foster consultations because this country is under one President and one PM," he told the ministers.

He urged ministers to inject new ideas and contemplate positive changes to actualise new governance structures for the National Accord to succeed.

"It is a bad picture for a minister to contradict another in public. It is a picture of a disorganized government. If you do not agree with what a colleague has said, pick the telephone and talk to him or her. When this government fails, it will be collective failure," he said.
