Luanda — Angola's ruling MPLA party president, José Eduardo dos Santos, Friday in Luanda, considered his organisation's governing programme for the 2009-2012 period as clear, objective, complete and capable of securing the country's social and political development.
Eduardo dos Santos said so while opening the 3rd National Conference of the Angola People Liberation Movement.
"We must know well the programme and, on its basis, mobilise the voters, convince those undecided, explain to those who have doubts and the misinformed. Until September there will be a lot of work ahead," stated the president.
According to him, this work requires, above all, a moment of reflection "as we must know which forces, which resources and means we can count on and know also the nature and capacity of our opponents."
In his address, José Eduardo dos Santos stated that the first general elections of 1992 in Angola did not secure the normal cycle of legislative and presidential elections, due to the political and military instability that followed.
With the end of the war in 2002, the country started in 2003 to be run through two-year programmes.
Such programmes, he added, were designed to consolidate peace and national reconciliation, promote political and macro-economic stability, rebuild infrastructures destroyed by the war, promote social stability and improvement of the health services, education and social assistance and fight famine and poverty.
