Angola's ruling MPLA party president, José Eduardo dos Santos, said Friday in Luanda that his organisation takes towards the Angolan people a commitment of reforms based on its governing programme it will present to the voters in the 2008 polls.

José Eduardo dos Santos, who was addressing the opening of the 3rd National Conference of his party, said that "today everyone has realised that with MPLA Angola is changing for the best," adding that with the implementation of the programme, the country will continue changing for the best.

"The changes designed in the draft programme are not demagogic promises, they are based on a deep study of the national reality conducted by specialists of great competence, who took into account the aspirations of the people and the resources of the Nation," stated the leader of the party that runs the country.

In implementing it, he also said, "we will be building in the present the future of our children, on the basis of far-reaching national projects that highlight the national pride and Angolans' self-esteem, providing to all citizens the highest living standards and social wellbeing."

"MPLA is aware that it can only promise what he is willing to fulfil and that is possible to be made true," Eduardo dos Santos underscored, recalling that his party acts in line with seriousness and realism.

He stated that his party is working to win the election, recalling that the victory will depend on combined effort from everyone.

José Eduardo dos Santos underlined as well that the strategy for the electoral campaign for the poll of September this year is in line with the possibilities and the human, material and financial resources the party possesses. "Now we need to be in action," he said.

According to José Eduardo, MPLA leadership has clearly defined its goals, some of which might be enriched by the delegates during the debates around the ongoing 3rd National Conference.

The source stated as well that the proposition presented by the organisation in his draft programme show the national will that is reflected on the National Consensus Agenda, approved in 2007, on the basis of opinions from all walks of the Angolan society.

"I think that now we must be obstinate about their accomplishment," said the MPLA leader who added the party has been showing its great capacity to deal with difficult situations, running the changes of the cycles of life.

"With effect, it is the wise and coherent attitude in the face of the challenges of the present and of the future that has been determining for the success of our party," the ruling party leader underlined.

According to Eduardo dos Santos, it is the attitude that has been determining "our choices and political options which, in their turn, are on the basis of our success."

"Within MPLA we cultivate and will continue to cultivate a positive, constructive and firm attitude in the certainty of victory," the president also said.

More than 1,500 delegates are attending the National Conference of the Angola ruling MPLA party, with delegates from the country's 18 provinces.

The meeting is to discuss and approve the MPLA governing programme for the 2009/2012 period and the party's electoral manifesto for the legislative election of September this year.
