THE Broadcasting Council has blocked screening of two lesbian films during the ongoing Amakula Film festival at the National Theatre in Kampala.
The Watermelon woman and Rag Tag are a few of the highly explicit lesbian films which were due to be screened in the festival.
The director of information, Kagole Kivumbi, said the suspension of the explicit films followed complaints from Pastor Martin Sempa and pro-family groups.
Kagole said the power to preview films was entrusted with the media council.
The Amakula festival shows about 200 films that are directed by Alice Smits and Lee Ellickson who are of Dutch origin.
Sempa, in an interview, commended the media council for banning the screening of homosexual films.
"We cannot allow misguided people to confuse our children through such films. These people do not honour Uganda's laws, culture and values. They had even shown some of the homosexual films," he said.

"During CHOGM they showed Rag Tag and met strong resistance. They had to be ejected out of the people's space," he said.
Sempa added that ethics minister Dr Nsaba Buturo had written to the National Theatre and the Police chief to ensure that Amakula organisers only show films that have been cleared by the media council.
Smits was not available for comment. She did not pick up calls made to her phone by Saturday Vision and her coordinator, Evelyn Nuwagaba, declined to comment on the matter.
